Overview

Changes to the UK Immigration system now means that current skilled workers wishing to apply to the UK must do so under the new Tier 1 General route. Highly skilled workers are vital to the UK economy, especially in shortage occupations and allows them to work in the UK without any kind of sponsorship from an employer.

Criteria

It is points based and the individual is required to score a minimum of 75 points in the 4 areas below:

1. Age

Under 28 years of age = 20 points

28 - 29 years of age = 10 points

30 - 31 years of age = 5 points

2. Qualifications

PHD = 50 points

Masters Degree = 35 points

Bachelors Degree = 30 points

3. Earnings (Conversion applicable)

£40,000 + = 45 points

£35,000 - £39,999 = 40 points

£32,000 - £34,999 = 35 points

£29,000 - £31,999 = 30 points

£26,000 - £28,999 = 25 points

£23,000 - £25,999 = 20 points

£20,000 - £22,999 = 15 points

£18,000 - £19,999 = 10 points

£16,000 - £17,999 = 5 points
